Today I’m talking with award-winning author, Pamela Thibodeaux. Welcome Pamela!
Some people listen to music when they write. Some people write outside, near a window, etc. What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?
My most interesting writing quirk is that I’m totally opposite from “some people.” LOL! I have to have silence (or maybe a little background noise) to write. I love being outside, but the glare on my computer screen makes it uncomfortable to write, maybe because I wear glasses. However, I have managed to pen an entire article while riding in a vehicle using the note feature on my phone (go figure right).
How long does it take your to write a book?
That depends on the story itself. I’ve penned a 70K word novel in as little as 4 months. Others have taken 6 or more and shorter works can take between 5 weeks and several months (or years) if it’s not moving well.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
READ. Reading is my favorite pastime but Summer is my favorite season and I love to be outdoors…camping, hiking, horseback riding, swimming, etc.
Where do you get your ideas for your books?
I am a 100% SOTP writer therefore I never know what will trigger an idea. It may be a conversation, dream, movie or news report or most of the time the characters just show up in my mind and start talking.
Is there a message in your book you hope readers will relate to?
My main goal with every project is to share my faith with readers and hopefully encourage them to have a personal relationship with God. I always want them to know that God loves them and wants that relationship.
What are your future projects?
I have a lot of WIP’s in various stages of completion but my current dream (goal) is to be published in Woman’s World magazine so I’ve been writing a lot of stories geared toward that publication.
What kinds of research do you do for your books?
Only what I have to, LOL! I’m not a huge History buff which is why I write contemporary. I may need to research a setting (like Bandera, TX) or something as easy, but usually that’s about it.
Did you always want to be a writer?
I’ve always been an avid reader but the desire to write came while in my twenties after reading one-too-many disappointing books.
